With the riders rarely making it down from top to bottom in practice, the first three riders managed to get down safe and clean in good conditions.
Canadian Graham Agassiz was on track for a high score until he hit the deck late on, but thankfully managed to give the thumbs up after being stretchered away.
Semenuk held his nerve next to complete an early 360 step up to open followed by a dizzying series of tricks to close out an exhilarating run.
Semenuk, who also won the People’s Choice Award, declared: “I am so excited. Eight years is a long time. I was really excited about my line. I am so stoked.

He said, “It feels super good. I have been injured for eight months. I was waiting for the perfect conditions and I am super stoked I landed it.”
Previous winners Kurt Sorge and Kyle Strait went all out to try and make the podium, but fell agonisingly short.
Strait revealed, “I was so pumped to get down safely. It’s tough to finish on the podium or be healthy enough to even be here.”
The second run was sadly dogged by high winds up the top with several riders blown off course in the course of jumps leaving Semenuk sitting pretty.
Belgian Thomas Genon and Strait could have toppled Semenuk with phenomenal second runs that came apart with bad landings as the finish line was in sight.
Another former winner Cameron Zink suffered a big crash too, nonetheless jumped straight back to his feet and into the arms of his wife and daughter nearby.
Zink explained, “Wind is your biggest nemesis as a mountain biker. You are a sitting duck up there.”
