A portrait of Alex Donnachie, a BMX icon driven by the obsession for a bike that has shaped him over the years.
There is nothing like a bicycle to really discover a place and in this aesthetic short film we accompany Alex Donnachie, a rider whose style of perseverance, commitment and creativity mirrors Glasgow’s spirit, on his urban exploration around the city that has become his playground.
Culture, passion, action, all these elements blend together in the film thanks to the power of movement. We are taken on a journey through the city and introduced to the many fascinating characters and alternative places that make Glasgow so unique to discover.
The project was imagined by GLASGOW LIFE, who had the ambition ofshowing the world what Glasgow really had to offer the BMX community. This will be part of the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships taking place in Glasgow and across Scotland.

“We were delighted to work with Hurricane on this exciting and innovative collaboration. Signing Alex Donnachie to ride in the film and completely personalise his relationship with Glasgow is extremely moving. We hope many young people in Glasgow and beyond are inspired by Alex’s journey and passion, and will go onto share his love of BMX. The city has a unique blend of parks, urban landscape and world class sporting venues, which makes the Glasgow a truly welcoming home to many of the world’s finest BMX riders”.
The project was developed and brought to life by Hurricane Creative who had a vision to capture the soul of the city in a film that would excite not only the BMX community but all those interested in art, culture, travel and of course bicycles. Rodeo Film were tasked with directing the project and bringing a cinematic style to the film that would express the atmosphere and vibrations of the city itself.

“Glasgow has always been, on the global map of urban sports and specially of BMX Freestyle, a core city where the urban environment encourages the local riders’ creativity. When the UCI awarded their very first Cycling World Championships to Glasgow, it was clear to us that BMX Freestyle would benefit from it. This video showcases the legitimacy of Glasgow hosting the Freestyle side of cycling within other traditional cycling disciplines by capturing the true spirit of the city and its inhabitants. We truly believe the fans, but also the Youth as a whole, will dig into the Glasgow vibes captured in the video before visiting in 2023 for the UCI Cycling World Championships.”
