In echoes of a futuristic spaceship, BMX riders Courage Adams and Paul Thölen recently unleashed their array of tricks on a bike park made of mirrors. Mirror Park has been one year in the making, a visually spectacular backdrop to the duo’s stunts.
Here is all you need to know:
– It is your usual tailor-made bike park with all the twists and turns you might expect, only that it is completely covered in mirrors.
– In an invasion of the senses with the reflective effect, 22-year-old Spanish rider Adams and 19-year-old German rider Thölen performed a myriad of stunning tricks on the course.
– Akin to a mirage, the bike park was set up near Pamplona, Spain, home of the notorious bull run each year, and had a dizzying effect on the two riders.
– When Adams, who performed unlikely lines playing with manuals, nose manuals, double peg, crank arm and bar-spins, created it, he said: “It looks like a spacecraft. That place looked nothing similar to how it was before.” He added: “It’s a real challenge which has enabled me to see my limits and evolve a lot, improve my self-control and my actions in the street, and keep me motivated. I’ve learned there are no limits in BMX, just the ones you create.”
– Meanwhile, Thölen, who performed his Fakie-Alley Oop 360 among other tricks despite a crash in training, added: “As soon as I saw Mirror Park, I thought it was surreal and that I wouldn’t be able to perform a single trick. Riding in a place like this can only happen once in a lifetime. The real difficulty was to isolate my mind from my own reflections on the ramps because it was hard to calculate the distances. It has not been easy to ride Mirror Park but, in the end, it was a lot of fun”.
